2021 Project 365 // Days 176 - 182

 

25th June 2021
Last year's 30 Days Wild I made a nature mandala out of petals and leaves from my garden, this year I'm sharing my feather collection. Obviously, I only pick up already lost feathers and those in the little jar have been found this month in my front garden!

26th June 2021
2 years down and we're entering year 3 at Hallow 'Manor'!
Each year we have taken a photo of the house, measuring the growth and progress of the beautiful garden.
Unfortunately for the photo, today has been the first out of the three years that it is pouring down but at least the plants are loving it!
Can you spy a little photo bomber at the window?
(Oh also, some of our plants are on the property line to next door so we aren't able to prune those.
And the bush taking over the bottom left window is intentional as it gives privacy,
a beautiful green glow to the kitchen and a wonderful view of the little birds playing from inside.)

27th June 2021
Last bath bomb of the month is the Ickle Baby Bot but I am not loving its new shape!
-
We've seen this little guy a few times now but was excited to get a photo of them caught red-handed today!
They 'eat' the bamboo screening on our fence and make quite a bit of noise while doing so!
Apparently, they fly off with it to make their nests.

28th June 2021
Our new bee hotel arrived today!
As excited as I am for it, I'm slightly annoyed I wasn't able to make my own as I love woodworking.
 Earlier in the month, I attempted a birdhouse build, but the offcuts of wood we had had been warped from being outside so didn't work out.
Then the cost of wood and materials for that and bee lodgings wasn't good.
So we ended up having to go with the cheaper, less personal option for now...!
I'll make a birdhouse or two soon hopefully.

For the penultimate day of 30 Days Wild, an update on our greenhouse etc.
Growing your own food is healthier for you and the planet, with more nutrients and no chemicals/pesticides, saves a little on carbon emissions as there is no long-distance transportation and it's fun to know exactly how your food got on your plate.
Hopefully next year we will have more time and maybe eventually our name will get called for an allotment!
(We signed up when we moved in 2 years ago, the list is apparently 7 years...)

The final day of 30 Days Wild!!
I'm closing out this mini-project within a project with a visit to the Tweed.
I'm so glad I got to see all my river friends this morning. I used to live literally meters away
from this Riverside walk and interacted with all the birds, seals, otters etc every single day.
I haven't even seen a Swan properly in over a year so it was wonderful to be reunited!
Again, I took more photos than these which will be shared in a blog post.

1st July 2021
Our Born Free 'The Lion' and Virginia McKenna Roses from Harkness Roses arrived today!
I let Mam choose which she'd like and the other I've planted in our new Ladybird pot by the front door.
 I can't believe the strength of its perfume. Very excited to see this continue to grow.
We preordered these in celebration of Virginia McKenna's 90th birthday
and £2.50 from each plant goes to The Born Free Foundation! Go check them out.

One of my current reads, combining two of my biggest loves - Nature and Disney.

June 19th 2021
I've got my back pain playing up again, so it was a day of wildlife from my window.
We did sit in the garden for a little, while the Guineas played out, but the rest of the day was on the sofa.
We watched Luca and had the birds visit us!

June 20th 2021
Even with my back playing up, I had to have our weekly bath.
It ended up another green tub, not complaining though as it's my favourite colour.

The seagulls were going wild at sunset tonight.
Maybe they were excited for the Summer Solstice?! Probably not.
Considering that we're now actually 3 miles away from the coast, it makes me feel at home to have Seagulls and Black-Backed Gulls here.
No matter what people think of Gulls and Pigeons etc, I love them just as much as other birds.
I'm proud to have assisted in the rescue of a juvenile Herring Hull who was covered in oil
and a baby Pigeon who had been spray-painted blue, in past years.

All birds are beautiful 🦜🐥🦆🐦🕊️🦩🐧🦚🦢🦉

For the first day of Summer, Mother Nature finally graced us with some rain this month!
I love the sun as much as anyone, and Summer is probably the best season, but we need rain every now and again.
Look how happy this family of 4 snails are!

I love our front garden In Summer - look at it!
We preen it all once a year then let nature take over! So bright and happy.
It's all grown in so well that this year, that the hut we put in last year for Hoggle our rescue hog is looking very much at home.
The range of flowers and plants means it's well sheltered and protected,
you can see Mr H's hand holding the big bush back so we could get in to check it and top up the water.

June 23rd 2021
Another milestone day today.
I had my first outing in a public place in over a year.
I won't be going anywhere else and probably won't do this again, but we were able to have a nice day disregarding the obvious.
(Don't be fooled by the photo, I had a mask on at all times except taking two photos because you can still get ill outside contrary to popular belief...)
We like to take Baker to Beamish because he can have a safe, stress-free walk as all dogs must be on leads and we are able to stick to the quiet places without many people.
It was nice to see our farm friends again (even if an evil woman did announce that the beautiful Turkey was 'Christmas Dinner') as well as all the other wildlife and trees, plants etc.
It's always nice to be out in nature and I think too many people are taking it for granted how privileged they are to have it right now.
Hopefully, we'll get one more visit before our Friends of Beamish passes run out and before the dreaded school holidays!
Obviously, I took way more photos so they'll be another set in an upcoming blog post talking more about how the day went.

Look who is back again!
That's twice in one week our camera caught Hoggle enjoying our wild patch
and this time he left us a nice poop too haha.
